Pocket Cruising AngleseyCan £3K buy you a yacht, mooring and get you cruising? July 04 Down sizingOK so the budget has now shrunk from small to almost miniscule! £5000 was a tiny amount for what I had in mind but with only £3000 at my disposal it was time for a rethink!
While the original idea for building a boat and setting off on a three month adventure may well be a little bit out of sight, there’s still no reason why I can’t go through the same processes but reduce the size of the adventure.
So from a rather grand 3 months on the west coast of Scotland, I’ve decided to bring things a little bit closer to home for the maiden sail… so its 2 weeks circumnavigating Anglesey.
I know that sounds like a rather large step away from what I first envisaged but lets look at it from the points I’m interested in.
Sailing. Some people say that if you can circumnavigate Anglesey you can sail the world, but I think that maybe a little over the top but you certainly do get some amazing seas with almost every type of water you can think of!
Climbing. Anglesey may well have some of the best sea cliff climbing available anywhere in the UK! Gogarth is not for the faint of heart and looks equally impressive from the sea!
Walking. There are some stunning coastal walks and beaches and close to mainland Wales gives easy access to the Snowdonia region.
The boat as a result, doesn’t change too much from my previous requirements but it does mean I can look at some smaller vessels. With the scaling down of the boat this also means running costs and fixes should also come down in price.
So all in all I think Anglesey is a fantastic alternative to Scotland, and once I’ve cut my teeth there I’m sure the west coast won’t be far away! I’m getting excited about the whole thing again!! February 08 NEW PROJECT TIMESCALE *** 2008 ***
So... last year was a right off. MOneys been tight but at long last I may see some light at the end of the tunnel!
Looks like I can get enough money together by the end of April, and with the start of a new year which has helped bring me some much needed vigor, I'm able to start looking for a small yacht again, so I'm back on the hunt!
I'm going to be looking over the plans again and get myself back into sailing as soon as possible!
Check back soon I'm sure theres much more to come!
December 21 Tides of changeWell, its been forever since last time i updated my blog and its sort of a strange thing to be doing for me because I still unsure of the outcome of this project.
While I am still very keen for this Project to go ahead things such as life appear to be getting in the way and as a result of which I may have to postpone or possibly even cancel this project. Gutted.
But for now I am carrying on as if its still going ahead. The money pit as long since dryed up since my car went supanova and I had to use all my money for ourchase a new one! Theres also a chance that I may be working abroad for 6 months and if thats the case then the project will but pushed back at least a year!
Anyway, for now I keep looking on the web at appropriate yachts (of which there are very few.)
Lets see what happens though November 12 Project rethink / timescale shiftOK. Its been quite some time since I last put something here, and there's good reason. The best laid plans never go to plan and this one is no exception.
With a car that went supernova a couple of months ago, I've sadly had to invest all the money that I had put aside for the Project into a new vehicle! So at the moment the pot is looking very empty indeed. But I'm still determined to go ahead with the project - even though this could well mean pushing the date back by 12 months!!
I've still been on the look for yachts, but I'm rather surprised that theres not all that many (in my price bracket - or rather what WAS in my price bracket) on the market. People are obviously more concerned with Christmas and not about selling there boats!!
Anyway, I'm still keeping my eye open for the odd bargain, and should an unexpected wind fall happen upon me that 2007 may still be on.
I'm sure I'll still be buying the odd little 'bargain' for future events. Bob back soon -if you're interested - and see whats gone on. |
